Reviews

We’ve been really gratified by the response we’ve gotten to Question The Rules and we wanted to create a page that linked to some of the reviews and comments people have made.

I bought Question The Rules at the “early” price and I feel like I totally ripped off Lee & Johnny.

The gazillion hours of interviews and lessons feel  like your eavesdropping in on other people’s conversations, and not just any old people… super-cool people that talk about their unique approach to success, whatever that means for them.  Although Lee & Johnny offer up some really great concrete steps to maximize your networking, the greatest thing is, the conversations and interviews will shake up your thinking so you can create your own “best” path.

(QTR Interview subject) Jon Morrow probably wouldn’t want this, but he is my new hero.

This one interview made my purchase of Question the Rules an incredible value. It was a conversation that provided more value to me than — and I know this sounds like bullshit — graduate school.

Okay, I know I am gushing, so just one more thing. Maybe two.

One thing this course has clarified for me is this. Throughout my life I have thought of myself as one who has questioned the rules. And I have, for the most part. Mr. Truant and Mr. Stranahan, and now, Mr. Morrow, have showcased an idea for me. The only rules that apply are the ones that I apply. At 62, I feel shaken and awakened.

In the entrepreneur ecosystem, I believe in life-long learning and keeping myself educated.  I believe that there are a lot courses available online that have nothing to do with your typical college or university.  You can spend years getting lost in all of the information products that are constantly being put out into the market, and I’ve learned to not pull the trigger so fast.  You don’t need every product that is going to help you live your dreams and live a passionate life, but there is one I have found especially amazing this year.

when you buy Question the Rules, you get access to the ideas of these people who, through their words, help give you the tools to build your own dream life. imagine building a lifestyle business, doing what you love, and being totally DIY about all of it. it all really resonates with me, as i don’t want to be stuck in a traditional 9-5 job working for someone else.

I found the content incredibly useful and a lot of fun to listen to.

I liked that it’s not a cut-and-dried, step-by-step approach but focuses more on philosophy and mindset in addition to personal anecdotes we can sometimes apply to our own lives and businesses (or use our own brains and creativity to adapt to our unique circumstances). In the world of self-professed internet gurus, I found the approach refreshing. So many products are authoritarian step-by-step guides found everywhere that often don’t work for unique situations. And then the developers wonder why they’re getting a lot of e-mail with questions (as people try to fit their circular businesses and lives into a box-shaped pattern) and wonder why people guru-ify them (the inevitable outcome of a “do what I did and be rich and famous like me” approach).

I bought the Question The Rules course a couple of weeks ago from Johnny B. Truant and Lee Stranahan. It’s called QTR for short which could also stand, in this case, for Quit The Ratrace. It’s a business course but it’s mostly about having attitude, questioning conventional wisdom and having the confidence to do your thing, whatever that happens to be. I have never, ever, ever bought a thing like this before. So why did I change the habit of a lifetime? Because I like their anarchic approach.

You are not convinced that it’s more valuable than $397, aren’t you? There are some ways to estimate its value. There are 4 modules and 16 interviews with some extra audios like introduction, a wrap up talk, an interview with Johnny and that with Lee. Here’s one way. Assume that there are 30 hours of audio and each audio is a one hour lecture you can attend for $20. So, it comes to $600. Here’s another way. Assume you ask Johnny, Lee, and each entrepreneur featured in the course, for a one hour of consultation. I can easily imagine they would charge you more than $100 for that. So, perhaps it would come to something like $1800. You might say you are not sure if each audio is really worth $20 or covers what you would want to know. All I can say is: Yes, those lectures and interviews were really helpful for me.

If you are not sure about the course yet, I can understand that feeling. In fact, I was afraid that I would flood myself with taking so much information at once, because I’ve been working on Chris’s course as well. But I took the leap anyway and I’m happy for that decision.

Finally! Business How-To for Anarchists!

I bought Question the Rules earlier this week, and it’s absolutely boffo. I’ve listened to the audios since Tuesday, and I’ll probably listen to them through the weekend and into next week.

Then I’ll listen to them again.

I have listened to the first hour of JBT and LS’s goal setting stuff on audio.

Honestly, I was nervous because even though I really like and respect both those guys and they’re both funny as fuck, I wasn’t sure what they knew about goal setting.  I didn’t want to feel compelled to call Truant up afterward and tell him to go and get a real job because it was bollocks.

I was genuinely impressed. I hear some real crap on goals and the like from people who should either know better, or who just shouldn’t be talking about such things because reading one book on goal setting does not an expert make.

It was very cool stuff and I SWEAR (come check if you don’t believe me) it in now on my iPhone to listen to at the gym some more because I suspect I can learn some new angles.

I have been going through a very deep soul searching mid life crisis sort of stage. I have been a solo-preneur for the last 13 years but but suddenly a couple of years ago it all started feeling “fake”. One of the things that has mostly impacted me is the assertiveness and confidence that these guys project. The parts on goals and faith are worth the entire course. I will have to hear them multiple times to see if it actually “sinks” in but, they are great. In this fucked up economy one of the first thing that goes is our confidence in ourselves… they help you search for it again.

Thank you, Marina

Question The Rules is …uhm, what is it? Inspiring, motivating, intriguing, fascinating, polarizing, mesmerizing, provoking,..
Jeez, it’s a lot of things, but one thing it is not (even though JBT and LS call it that!) : a course!
Come on! A course called : Question The Rules? Is that a new oxymoron or what?
There’s no schedule, no homework, no form to fill out, and no certificate confirming your successful passing the final test (which you can then attach to your resume).
How can one label something so anarchic like QTR with a term implying carefully planned, sequenced and structured lessons?

QTR is much more than a course, it’s an experience! A mind-opening experience!

What I learn from experience is practical, it sticks and begs to be used again. And it’s often learned at a deeper level, meaning that I can apply it in a lot of different ways and situations.
QTR, therefore, works not only in the business realm, it works in life.

QTR is a very personal experience, as you kind of create it yourself by the sequence in which you listen to the 26 (by the time of this writing) audio tracks. Sure, there are some recordings which are best kept in order, the three parts on networking, for example. But in the interview section you are left to your own anarchic selection – and boy, it does give you a different sort of ‘impression’ if you follow Jason Fried with John Unger or Jon Morrow.

I bought it early, started to dig into it right away, and will keep digging for some time to come, because every time I come back to an old hole I find something new.

An experience for the price of a coffee-table book!
Can’t get that anywhere else!

Thanks, Johnny and Lee

I believe that there is often a perception in the artistic world (I’m an actor & writer) that you have to wait around for others to grant you opportunities. The limiting and even debilitating belief that your career and your life depend on externally provided components. Johnny and Lee have reaffirmed my optimistic and fierce desire for an alternative. It is possible to craft the career of your dreams and to seemingly miraculously design the life you want. No one in QTR says that it will be easy or quick, but it is attainable. This program gives honest advice, exciting inspiration, real world case studies and (perhaps most importantly) the clear truth that you are not alone out there.

According to my ultra fast Google search, http://www.thefreedictionary.com defines punk rock as “A form of hard-driving rock ‘n’ roll originating in the 1970s, characterized by harsh lyrics attacking conventional society and popular culture, …”

So exactly how ‘punk rock’ can a self-help course be?

Johnny and Lee don’t exactly attack conventional society and popular culture – but they sure make you think about what you’re trying to do and how you’re trying to do it. No, they won’t tell you how to get rich quick. No, they won’t tell you a bunch steps to follow to get the perfect business up and running either. How punk rock would that be?

But they will show you ways of looking at things, ways to question your assumptions and examine what you *think* is true, to see if it really is. They will inspire you to get going. Now. While you’re listening – to start questioning the rules that apply to your life today. All the rules, including the ones that say you have to follow them to get the life you want in the future. They’ll give you the confidence you need to get started on your rule breaking tonight. Oh, and there’s Lee’s crazy plan to start a restaurant for $1.99. I don’t want to start a restaurant, but I might well be ‘stealing’ his idea to start my own thing…

Actually, kinda. \m/ rock on \m/

I bought the course at the introductory price of $97. I wasn’t familiar with Lee at all, and I’d only read a few of Johnny’s blog posts. My abiding interest in business has been the mindset and strategy of success. These guys turn some conventional wisdom on its ear. I did kind of have to get past the punk rock theme, cause I’m more of a classical girl, but it was well worth it.

I, too, love the $1.98 restaurant idea. I don’t want to start a restaurant, either, but I’m starting to think of how I could apply that to my business.

Would I buy this at $397? You bet! And I’d think I got a really good deal, too!

I am not alone in the business world!! Thank the sweet Lord, Goddess or whatever you want to call it. Listening to the core recordings of the course helped me understand that my way is okay and that I don’t have to fit myself into the corporate box of “small business correctness” that I’ve been trying to do for the last several years. It’s okay to be you…and it’s okay to do business in your way…and not only is it okay, but people are out there doing it and kicking ass at it. Awesome!

As a natural introvert, I especially loved the networking recordings. I sometimes feel like an alien trying to figure humans out and you guys have given me the tools to blend in, connect and make this world into a wonderful place to be with the help of my fellow conscious entrepreneurs.

I haven’t even listened to all of the bonuses yet, but I can’t wait. Each one leaves me with a ton of ideas – now I just need to make the time to implement them.

So I admit the whole punk rock thing was a little beyond me (I have heard of a band called the Sex Pistols but that is the extent of it), but the whole “fuck authority” thing really resonates with me. I am proud of what I have accomplished thus far in questioning the rules of “conventional” society. My life is an awesome display of what is possible when you do what feels best. Except for one tiny little thing; I am dead broke.

I have been stuck in knowing how to proceed with my business ideas because all the conventional business boxes weren’t appealing to me.

Then along came Johnny and Lee and through QTR my eyes have been opened up to the world of possibilities that success in business can be mine, just by being me. How cool is that!?

The weekend I took the plunge and purchased QTR (I am not exaggerating the dead broke thing…Visa is supporting me at the moment), it was a leap of faith. But they pulled me in with such an accurate description of how I felt “yes, people think the way I lead my life is crazy!”, “yes, I totally believe in the concept that we should enjoy earning a living!”, “yes, I need some support so I don’t feel like I am out of my god damn mind about creating my own business!”

That weekend changed my life.

Suddenly I realised there were people like me out there in the world. I wasn’t alone.

And more than that, these people were making money (halleluiah!).

QTR is an education. I haven’t even gotten through all the interviews yet there are so many! I love the raw honesty, the perspectives, the ideas, the conversational style, the insider information, the stories.

These guys may just very well be accountable for my future business success. I almost feel like I should pay them royalties on my profits!

Thanks so much guys – you have totally rocked this little Aussie’s world :-)

Thanks for all the great comments, guys. We asked for reviews and we got reviews, but 95% of what we got in addition was praise. You’re going to go making us all big-headed now, and then how will we walk with our giant heads?
